Marty Roesch, CEO of Netography and founder of Sourcefire, is set to share his wealth of experience at the upcoming DMV Rising event on September 12th. As a featured speaker on the panel "Open Innovation and Category Creation in Cybersecurity," Roesch brings over 25 years of expertise in information security and a track record of successfully commercializing open source software.
Roesch's journey in cybersecurity began with the creation of Snort, an open-source intrusion detection and prevention system that became the global standard for detecting network-based attacks. This groundbreaking project laid the foundation for Sourcefire, the company Roesch founded in 2001. As CEO and CTO of Sourcefire, Roesch led the company to great heights, culminating in its acquisition by Cisco Systems in 2013 for an impressive $2.7 billion. Following the acquisition, Roesch continued to make his mark in the industry, serving as Chief Architect of Cisco's Security Business Group.
In 2021, Roesch embarked on a new venture as CEO of Netography, a security company focused on the "atomized network." Under his leadership, Netography secured a significant $45 million Series A funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners and SYN Ventures, with participation from notable investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and Wing Venture Capital. This substantial investment underscores the industry's confidence in Roesch's vision and Netography's potential to address the evolving challenges in network security.
Throughout his career, Roesch has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field. He was named one of the Top 25 Disrupters of 2013 by CRN Magazine and recognized as one of eWeek's Top 100 Most Influential People in IT. His expertise has made him a sought-after voice in the industry, with appearances in major publications such as the Wall Street Journal, CNET, and Scientific American.
At the upcoming DMV Rising event, Roesch will join Will Ackerly, co-founder and CTO of Virtru, to explore the strategies, challenges, and opportunities of leveraging open-source projects and open standards in building high-growth software businesses.
Don't miss the opportunity to hear from Marty Roesch and other industry leaders at DMV Rising on September 12th. His story of innovation, from developing the Snort IDS to leading multiple successful companies, is set to inspire and inform attendees about the power of open innovation.
