From working in the U.S. Intelligence Community to building and scaling tech startups, Ron Gula has deep expertise in the DMV cybersecurity landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Gula will be closing out our afternoon session with insights on the DMV region’s transformation into a recognized global hub for cybersecurity innovation and talent.

Gula is the President of Gula Tech Adventures, a firm that has invested more than $100 million into 50 cybersecurity, AI, and national security companies. Gula Tech Adventures has also run six separate $1,000,000 competitive grant programs for cybersecurity nonprofits and conducts programs to recruit talent to the cyber workforce.

As co-founder and former CEO of Tenable Network Security, Gula led the company’s rapid growth and product vision from 2002 through 2016. He helped them scale to more than 20,000 customers worldwide, raise $300 million in venture capital, and achieve revenues in excess of $100 million annually.

Gula got his start in cybersecurity working for the federal government: A Captain in the U.S. Air Force, Gula designed and engineered several communications and weather systems still in use today. As a network penetration tester for the NSA, he conducted vulnerability research and supported cyber-related military training exercises. Throughout his cybersecurity career, he has developed network honeypots to lure hackers, led teams of penetration testers and incident responders, and pioneered network security monitoring software.

Gula continues to give back to the cybersecurity community, here in the D.C. area and beyond, serving on advisory boards and fostering the next wave of tech talent.
